Stephen Gertsen on Scotland’s Performance

“Scotland had a fantastic showing at the Home Countries in Dublin, coming home with 16 medals in total across the team, doubles and singles events. The team had great spirit and edge about them all weekend.

We set standards high in the team meeting on Friday morning, with our experienced seniors, Faye and Colin, offering valuable advice and support for the younger generation.

We came away with men’s gold in the team, backed up with silver medals in the cadet girls, cadet boys and junior boys, along with a bronze in the junior girls – it so nearly could have been a couple more team golds.

At the team meeting on Sunday morning, we asked the question: could those silvers be turned into gold? Could we have a little more belief? Colin again provided some motivational words for our young team, and they certainly delivered. Five gold, one silver and five bronze medals won in the singles and doubles categories on the Sunday – an incredible day for us, one of the best for Scotland for sure.”
