TTS disappointed to miss out on Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

Table Tennis Scotland joins with our International Governing Body, the ITTF, in expressing our disappointment that table tennis is not one of the selected sports at Glasgow 2026.

Scotland has played a key role in the development of table tennis in the Commonwealth having been a founder member of the Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation in 1971 and organising the 5^th Commonwealth Championships at Meadowbank Stadium, Edinburgh, in 1979 and the 13th Commonwealth Championships at the Kelvin Hall, Glasgow in 1997. Scottish players have participated in the Games since its inclusion as a core sport in Manchester 2002.

Terry McLernon MBE, Chairman of Table Tennis Scotland said, “It is very disappointing we have not been included in the 2026 Commonwealth Games. It is particularly difficult for our players and Para players who work and train so hard and will have been looking forward to competing in a Commonwealth Games again in front of their home crowd. Looking forward however, we hope that with CGS and Glasgow hosting this slimmed down event in 2026, it will secure the event for future years and our players will be able to look forward to competing as a core sport in the Commonwealth Games in 2030. To that end we at Table Tennis Scotland wish the organisers and participating sports every success in 2026.”
