Team Scotland Enjoys Outstanding Success at the 2026 Senior Schools International
Team Scotland enjoyed one of its most successful Senior Schools International campaigns in recent years, returning from Cardiff with an impressive haul of 10 main event medals, including four British Senior Schools titles. Competing against the best school-aged players from England, Wales, Ireland, Jersey and Guernsey, Scotland produced outstanding performances across both the team and individual events. On Sunday's individual championships, Scotland won three of the six British Senior Schools singles titles – the highest gold medal tally of any nation on the final day.
The annual event saw Scotland represented by 22 players, six Non-Playing Captains (NPCs) and three umpires. Throughout the weekend, the squad demonstrated excellent teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship, with five medals secured in the team event before adding further success in the individual championships.
Team Event
Scotland made an outstanding start to the weekend in the team event, collecting five medals across the six age categories.
Under-14 Girls

The Under-14 Girls enjoyed a fantastic weekend, with Scotland A claiming the team title and Scotland B narrowly missing out on a medal.
The Under-14 Girls teams, coached by Natalie Gallan, consisted of Scotland A (Kiishi Adekola and Alexandra Hart) and Scotland B (Nikki Mo and Anne Chan).
Scotland A were outstanding throughout the competition. They topped their group with four emphatic 5-0 victories over Wales B, Wales C, Jersey B and England B before defeating Scotland B 3-0 in the semi-finals to book their place in the final.
The final against England A proved to be the match of the tournament. Scotland found themselves 2-0 down after the opening two singles, but the pairing responded superbly. Kiishi Adekola and Alexandra Hart combined to win the doubles before Kiishi levelled the tie at 2-2 with an excellent victory over Charlotte Wong. With the title resting on the final singles match, Alexandra Hart held her nerve to defeat Assil Sarri in three straight games, completing a remarkable comeback and securing a memorable 3-2 victory.
The victory crowned Kiishi Adekola and Alexandra Hart 2026 British Senior Schools Under-14 Girls Team Champions – a superb achievement and a memorable moment for Team Scotland.
Scotland B also impressed throughout the event, finishing fourth overall. They narrowly missed out on a bronze medal after a hard-fought 3-2 defeat to England B in the third/fourth place play-off, rounding off an excellent weekend for both Scotland teams.
Under-14 Boys

The Under-14 Boys enjoyed an excellent weekend, with Scotland A securing the silver medal and Scotland B producing an impressive performance on their debut.
The Under-14 Boys teams, coached by Cameron Hussain, consisted of Scotland A (Dean Robertson and Cayden Fleury) and Scotland B (James Huang and Inniyan Jayaraj).
Scotland A opened with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Ireland before recording convincing wins over Wales B (4-1), Jersey B (5-0) and Guernsey B (5-0). Their only group stage defeat came against eventual champions England A, but the results were enough to secure second place in the group and a semi-final place.
In the semi-final, Scotland A delivered one of their best performances of the weekend, defeating England B 3-1 to book their place in the final. Dean Robertson and Cayden Fleury paired well together throughout the weekend, with their doubles performances playing an important role in Scotland A's success.
The final against England A was one of the standout matches of the team event. England A took the opening singles before Dean Robertson produced a superb five-game victory over Li Hao Chen to level the tie at 1-1. Scotland A then edged ahead after Dean Robertson and Cayden Fleury won a thrilling five-game doubles match to take a 2-1 lead—the only doubles match England A lost throughout the weekend. England A responded to level the tie at 2-2 before narrowly securing the deciding match to claim a 3-2 victory, leaving Scotland A with a well-deserved silver medal after an outstanding weekend.
Scotland B also impressed throughout the event. As one of the youngest pairings in the competition and both making their Senior Schools debut, they gained valuable experience against strong opposition. Their standout performance came in the fifth/sixth place play-off, where they secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Wales B to finish sixth overall, rounding off a very encouraging first Senior Schools campaign.
Under-16 Girls
The Under-16 Girls enjoyed an excellent competition, with Scotland A claiming the bronze medal in a highly competitive six-team round-robin event.
The Under-16 Girls teams, coached by Ilona Wojcicka, consisted of Scotland A (Padma Unnam and Nichole Lee) and Scotland B (Olivia Maxwell and Tamara Martin).
Scotland A finished with an impressive record of three victories from five matches. Their standout performances came in hard-fought 3-2 victories over both Guernsey and Ireland, with the pair showing great resilience to come through two closely contested ties. Their only defeats came against eventual winners England A and runners-up England B, securing a well-deserved third-place finish and the bronze medal.
Scotland B gained valuable experience against strong opposition throughout the round-robin competition. The pair continued to compete positively in every match and finished sixth overall, providing a strong platform to build on in future Senior Schools International events.
Under-16 Boys
The Under-16 Boys enjoyed another successful weekend, with Scotland A securing the bronze medal and Scotland B producing a strong performance to finish fifth overall.
The Under-16 Boys teams, coached by Danny Bajwa, consisted of Scotland A (Joe Mulhern and Rory Thomson) and Scotland B (Victor Chen and Mathew Pszonka).
Scotland A progressed confidently through the group stage with convincing 5-0 victories over Wales, Guernsey A and Jersey B. Their only group stage defeat came in a hard-fought 3-2 encounter with England B, a result which saw Scotland A finish second in the group and set up a semi-final against the top seeds, England A.
Scotland A enjoyed a consistent weekend of performances, reaching the semi-finals before securing a well-deserved third-place finish and the bronze medal.
Scotland B also impressed throughout the event. After finishing third in their group, they rounded off the weekend with an excellent 3-1 victory over Jersey A in the fifth/sixth place play-off to secure fifth place overall, capping off a strong team performance.
Under-18 Girls
The Under-18 Girls team, coached by Fergus McLean, consisted of Maja Wojcicka and Megan Mulhern, who competed well in a strong seven-team round-robin event.
Scotland recorded convincing 5-0 victories over Jersey and Guernsey while also pushing both Ireland and Wales in close 3-2 defeats. Although they narrowly missed out on the top four, the pair showed they were capable of competing with the leading teams throughout the weekend.
It was a positive effort from Maja and Megan, who represented Scotland well against some strong opposition in the Under-18 Girls event.
Under-18 Boys
The Under-18 Boys enjoyed an excellent weekend, with Scotland A securing the silver medal and Scotland B gaining valuable experience against strong opposition.
The Under-18 Boys teams, coached by Iain Rhind, consisted of Scotland A (Ben Hart and Jakub Krzyzostaniak) and Scotland B (Robin McLean and Robbie Martin).
Scotland A progressed through the group stage with convincing 5-0 victories over Wales, Jersey B and Guernsey, alongside an impressive 3-2 win over England B to finish second in the group and book their place in the semi-finals.
In the semi-final, Scotland A produced a superb display to defeat England A 3-0, with both Ben and Jakub winning their opening singles before combining to seal the tie in the doubles and secure a place in the final.
The final against Wales A proved to be another thrilling encounter. Scotland A took an early lead through Ben Hart before Wales levelled the match. Wales then edged ahead by winning the doubles, but Ben responded with another excellent singles victory to make it 2-2. The title was decided in the final match of the tie, where Jakub battled hard before Wales narrowly secured a 3-2 victory, leaving Scotland A with a well-deserved silver medal.
Scotland B competed well throughout the weekend against strong opposition. The pair gained valuable experience at this level and finished ninth overall, continuing to represent Scotland with determination across the competition.
Individual Event
The success continued into Sunday's individual championships. Scotland won three of the six British Senior Schools singles titles, giving the team the highest gold medal tally of any nation in the individual events. Alongside the three gold medals, Scotland also added a silver and a bronze to finish with five main event medals on the final day, underlining the strength and depth of the Scottish squad.
Under-14 Girls Singles – Kiishi Adekola

Kiishi Adekola completed a remarkable weekend in Cardiff by being crowned 2026 British Senior Schools Under-14 Girls Champion, adding the individual title to the team gold she had won the previous day.
After receiving a bye into the knockout stages, Kiishi was in commanding form throughout the competition. She progressed to the semi-finals with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Yi Ching (Janet) Yu (England), dropping just 16 points across the three games (11-7, 11-7, 11-2).
In the semi-final, Kiishi continued her impressive run with another straight-games victory, defeating Charlotte Wong (England) 11-3, 11-6, 11-8 to book her place in the final.
The final against Assil Sarri (England) provided a sterner test. Kiishi made a flying start, taking the opening two games 11-9, 11-5, before Sarri responded to claim the third game 12-10. Kiishi quickly regrouped and produced a composed display in the fourth, closing out the match 11-4 to secure a 3-1 victory and become British Senior Schools Under-14 Girls Champion.
It was a thoroughly deserved title for Kiishi, who produced an exceptional level of consistency throughout the weekend. Across both the team and individual events, she remained unbeaten in singles, playing a pivotal role in Scotland's success in Cardiff.
Under-16 Boys Singles – Joe Mulhern

Joe Mulhern rounded off an excellent weekend by becoming 2026 British Senior Schools Under-16 Boys Champion, adding the individual title to the team bronze medal he helped Scotland secure the previous day.
Joe topped his qualifying group with three victories from three matches. After comfortable wins over Barnaby Groves (Guernsey) and Spike Herve (Jersey), he was pushed all the way by Aaditya Singh (Ireland) in the decisive group match. Joe showed great composure to come through a five-game battle 11-9, 10-12, 10-12, 11-8, 11-7, securing top spot in the group.
Receiving a bye into the quarter-finals, Joe faced another stern test against Harrison Hill (England). After taking the opening two games, his opponent fought back to level the match before Joe regained control in the deciding game to seal a hard-fought 3-2 victory (11-7, 11-6, 10-12, 3-11, 11-6) and book his place in the semi-finals.
Joe continued his impressive run with a 3-1 victory over Jake Davidson (England) in the semi-final before producing a commanding display in the final. Facing Oscar Nikolli (England) in the final, Joe delivered one of his most assured performances of the weekend, securing a straight-games 11-9, 11-5, 11-7 victory to become British Senior Schools Under-16 Boys Champion.
It was a thoroughly deserved title for Joe, who combined resilience with outstanding quality throughout the day. After coming through two demanding five-game encounters, he produced his best table tennis in the semi-final and final to deservedly become British Senior Schools Champion.
Under-18 Boys Singles – Ben Hart
Ben Hart completed a memorable weekend by becoming 2026 British Senior Schools Under-18 Boys Champion, adding the individual title to the team silver medal he helped Scotland secure the previous day.
Ben progressed confidently through the qualifying group, recording comfortable straight-games victories over Jack Le Blond (Jersey) and Xavier Ingrouille (Guernsey). His only defeat came against eventual group winner Harry Street (Wales), but a second-place finish was enough to secure his place in the knockout stages.
After receiving a bye into the quarter-finals, Ben faced Vincent Ni (Ireland) in a gripping encounter. Trailing 2-0, Ben produced a remarkable turnaround, winning the next three games to book his place in the semi-finals.
In the semi-final, Ben produced another assured performance, defeating Toby Harwood (Wales) 3-1 to set up a final against Chun Wai (Starry) Sheung (England).
The final proved to be an epic contest. Ben edged the opening game before falling behind after losing the next two. He responded brilliantly to force a deciding fifth game, where both players had opportunities to win the title. Showing incredible composure under pressure, Ben saved several match points before clinching the fifth game 17-15, securing a dramatic 3-2 victory (11-6, 8-11, 10-12, 11-3, 17-15) to be crowned British Senior Schools Under-18 Boys Champion.
It was a thoroughly deserved title for Ben, who displayed resilience, composure and determination throughout the knockout stages. His remarkable comeback in the quarter-final, followed by an unforgettable final victory, provided one of the standout moments of the weekend and capped off an outstanding Senior Schools International for Team Scotland.
Other Main Event Medal Winners
Scotland's success extended beyond its three British champions, with further podium finishes in the main event.
Dean Robertson claimed a superb silver medal in the Under-14 Boys Singles after an outstanding run to the final. His standout performance came in the semi-final against Mustafa Ibrahim (England), where Dean produced one of the comebacks of the weekend, recovering from 8-1 down in the deciding game against Mustafa Ibrahim (England). Showing incredible passion and determination, he fought back to book his place in the final before narrowly missing out on the title in a 3-2 defeat to Rishaan Sawant (England).
Alexandra Hart secured a bronze medal in the Under-14 Girls Singles following another outstanding performance. After a comfortable quarter-final victory over Penny Muil (Wales), Alexandra came agonisingly close to setting up an all-Scottish final, narrowly losing 3-2 to Assil Sarri (England), with the deciding game finishing 12-10.
Together, Dean and Alexandra added two more main event medals to Scotland's impressive haul, rounding off outstanding individual campaigns in Cardiff.
Plate Success
Scotland's impressive performances extended into the Plate events, with the team collecting a further nine medals, highlighting the depth of talent within the Scottish squad.
Anne Chan (Under-14 Girls) and Jakub Krzyzostaniak (Under-18 Boys) were crowned Plate champions after excellent runs through their respective events.
Inniyan Jayaraj (Under-14 Boys) and Mathew Pszonka (Under-16 Boys) both secured silver medals.
James Huang (Under-14 Boys), Olivia Maxwell (Under-16 Girls), Victor Chen (Under-16 Boys), Megan Mulhern (Under-18 Girls) and Robbie Martin (Under-18 Boys) each claimed bronze medals, rounding off another outstanding day for Team Scotland.
Conclusion
The 2026 Senior Schools International proved to be another memorable event for Team Scotland, with the squad delivering outstanding performances across both the team and individual competitions.
A huge thank you goes to the Scotland coaches and umpires for their commitment, support and professionalism throughout the weekend. Their contribution played an important role in supporting the players and helping the event run smoothly.
