Stiga Blackpool Junior 4 Star

Over the weekend, a select group of Scottish players, who are all members of the national pathway squad, made their way to the Blackpool Junior 4-star event. The squad consisted of Nichole Lee, Maja Wojcicka, Rory Thomson, Bohao Chen, William Wang, and Angus Halliday. Assisting them were NPCs Cameron Hussain and Lisa Notarangelo. Thanks to Lisa for all her help over the weekend.

In the cadet girls team event category, Maja and Nichole joined forces and impressed by reaching the semi-finals.

Maja advanced to the quarterfinals in the singles competition. Maja achieved an impressive victory against Millie Nobel, the fourth-ranked cadet girl in England. Nichole made it to the last 16 of the cadet girls.

The boys encountered strong opposition, but Rory Thompson managed to advance from his group to the U13 knockout rounds. He narrowly lost in the fifth set to Nishil Shah, the 11th-ranked U13 boy in England. The boys found themselves in numerous closely contested games that could have swung in either direction.

This challenging tournament provided a valuable and enjoyable experience for the Scottish National Pathway players.

It was great to see the participation of North Ayrshire and Drumchapel table tennis club in the Blackpool event. Their presence added an extra layer of excitement and enthusiasm to the competition.

Jamie Johnson and Nathan Hogg, a pair from North Ayrshire, successfully reached the semifinals in the junior boys’ team event. Meanwhile, Joe Mulhern, from Drumchapel, advanced to the quarter-finals in the cadet boys’ singles. Gavin Yuan one of the newest members of the squad had a very impressive weekend winning the U17 singles event and coming runner up in the U19 singles event.
