Scottish Senior Schools 2025

The Scottish Senior Schools Championships took place on Sunday 9 March 2025 at Bathgate with some fantastic table tennis on display as players vied for a top four place and the possibility of representing Scotland at the British Championships to be held in Jersey at the end of June.

In the U14 boys, the top four seeds duly made it through to the final stage where Dean Robertson remained unbeaten to take the title. A countback was required for positions 2 to 4 with Victor Chen just edging it ahead of Bohao Chen and Alexander Stepney.

In the U14 girls, matches went to form with the final tie between the top two seeds, Kiishi Adekola and Alexandra Hart. Alex took the first end but Kiishi’s strength and experience proved decisive as she took the next three with ease to lift another title. There was a minor upset in the U16 boys with Ben Hart upsetting the seedings to claim his second successive title in this event following a five set battle against Joe Mulhern. Competition was fierce for the other positions in the top group and another countback was required to separate Jakub Krzyzostaniak (3rd), Connor Cadden (4th) and Mathew Pszonka (5th).

The U16 and U18 girls played in a group of seven so all had plenty of match practice on the day. All the youngsters have therefore secured their places in the team with Maja Wojcicka taking the U16 title for second year in a row while Megan Mulhern claimed the U18 crown. The U18 boys event was dominated by Aberdeen players with top seed Daniel Tibbetts strolling through all of his matches without the loss of an end and completing a successful outing for the ASV Academy with four titles on the day. Daniel’s team-mate Allan He was runner up with Tony Chim and Ben Stewart making up the top four.

Thanks to all the players, coaches and families for attending and making the event a great success and a particular vote of thanks goes to Stewart McGowan who came along to present the wonderful new trophies.
