Martin Perry Claims Singles Bronze and Doubles Gold at ITTF World Para Elite Beijing

Table Tennis Scotland congratulates Scotland’s Martin Perry on an outstanding performance at the ITTF World Para Elite Beijing tournament, where he claimed a bronze medal in the Men’s Class 8 singles and a third consecutive doubles gold medal alongside Billy Shilton.

Singles Success

Perry produced an impressive run in the Men’s Class 8 singles, securing his first-ever singles medal at an Elite tournament.

After progressing through the group stages, Perry defeated world No. 2 Bobi Simion (Romania) 3–1 in the quarter-finals before narrowly missing out on a place in the final, losing to world No. 5 Rungroj Thainiyom (Thailand). His run earned him a well-deserved bronze medal.

Reflecting on his performance, Perry said:

“I’m over the moon with my first singles medal at an Elite tournament. I’ve been in a lot of quarter-finals these last few months, so I’m really happy to get over the line with that one.”

Third Consecutive Doubles Gold

Perry and Billy Shilton continued their outstanding form in the Men’s Class 14 doubles, claiming a third consecutive title and their second successive Elite tournament gold medal.

The pair progressed through the knockout stages with victories over two Chinese pairs before defeating the World and Paralympic silver medallists from Thailand in the semi-finals. They then overcame Kim Yong Rok and Pak Kum Jin of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea 3–2 in a thrilling final to secure the title.

The victory also marked their fifth consecutive international doubles final and confirmed qualification for the World Para Championships.

Speaking after the final, Perry said:

“Amazing to get to our fifth consecutive final and our third consecutive tournament win. We know we’re one of the top teams, and we’ve gone out there and proved it. That’s us qualified for the World Championships now, and hopefully we can continue the winning streak.”

Congratulations to Martin on another fantastic international performance, and best wishes as he continues his preparations for the World Para Championships later this year.
