Scottish National Championships 2026 – Event Round-Up

The 2026 Scottish National Championships, the flagship event of the Scottish table tennis calendar, were held on 21st and 22nd March at the sportscotland National Sports Training Centre, Inverclyde, once again providing an excellent setting for a weekend of high-level table tennis.

In the Men’s Singles, Colin Dalgleish took the national title after a closely fought final against Gavin Rumgay, coming through 4–3in one of the standout matches of the weekend. The victory marks Dalgleish’s second Men’s National Singles title and saw him deny Rumgay what would have been a milestone 19th national title. Dalgleish showed strong form throughout the knockout stages, while Rumgay once again demonstrated his quality and consistency in reaching another national final.

In the Women’s Singles, Faye Leggett retained her title with a 4–1 win over Rebecca Plaistow. Leggett was solid throughout the event, progressing confidently through both the group stage and knockout rounds, marking her fifth consecutive National Women’s Singles title. Plaistow also impressed, reaching the final after not having competed in the national singles event for a number of years.

The doubles events produced some strong contests across the board. In the Men’s Doubles, Colin Dalgleish & Calum Morrison combined well to take the title, defeating Martin Johnson & Danny Bajwa in what is becoming a fierce rivalry at the National Championships, with both pairs now tied on three titles each. The Women’s Doubles saw Rebecca Plaistow & Lara Stirling come out on top, winning their third title together, while in the Mixed Doubles, Calum Morrison & Alisa Khalid secured the title with a strong performance in the final, the pair winning their first title together.

Sunday’s Junior Championships saw a high standard across all age groups. Gavin Yuan claimed the Junior Boys’ Singles title with an impressive run, securing his third national title and dominating the event, dropping just one set throughout his campaign. In the Junior Girls’ Singles, Kiishi Adekola took the title, claiming her first national junior title, with both players showing real quality throughout.

In the Cadet events, Rory Thomson won the Cadet Boys’ Singles, while Alexandra Hart took the Cadet Girls’ Singles title. In the Minor categories, Inniyan Jayaraj and Mariah Cassino claimed the boys’ and girls’ titles respectively, with all four players securing their first national title in their respective age categories, highlighting the strength of players coming through.

The Junior Doubles events also saw some good performances, with Ben Hart & Joe Mulhern winning the Junior Boys’ Doubles, and Maja Wojcicka & Kiishi Adekola taking the Junior Girls’ Doubles title.

This year’s Championships also marked a step forward in the use of technology, with the event delivered fully digitally through the use of tablets and the Stadium Compete platform. This allowed matches and results to be updated live throughout the weekend, giving players, coaches, and spectators real-time access online. The approach was well received by the membership and added to the overall experience of the event.

Well done to all players who competed over the weekend, and congratulations to our 2026 National Champions and finalists.

A big thank you to all officials, umpires, volunteers, coaches, and staff for their efforts across the weekend, and to Inverclyde for hosting and supporting the event.
