Scottish Inter League Competition 2024/25

The domestic season concluded with a fantastic Scottish Interleague event which took place at Aberdeen Sports Village on the weekend on 26 & 27 April 2025. The last event took place in 2023 so it was great to see it back on the calendar and so well attended with six leagues from across Scotland competing. Aberdeen and Edinburgh led the way with 12 teams each while Shetland arrived in force with 8 teams making the long trip down and Stirlingshire & Midlands bringing 7 teams. The West of Scotland and Dundee brought the total number of teams entered to 45 with 3 teams each.

As there were only 3 teams of Junior Boys, they joined in the Senior Men’s event with two groups of 6 followed by cross over matches on the Sunday. There were some extremely competitive matches, especially in group 1 with Aberdeen A JB, led by Daniel Tibbetts, recording some excellent results to finish in second place to Edinburgh A. The second group was dominated by West of Scotland who recorded five 3-0 victories. It was therefore fitting that the last match to finish on Sunday was the final of this event. Jamie Johnson gave the West an early lead with a tight five set victory over Nathan Hogg however two wins from Ben Hart and one from Borui Chen meant that Edinburgh took the title 3-1.

Edinburgh also took the Senior Ladies title with their final match being against the previously unbeaten Aberdeen side. The first match proved decisive with Nichole Lee coming back from 2 games down to defeat Ilona Obst-Wojcicka 11-9 in the fifth end. Edinburgh won the next two matches comfortably to seal victory.

In the Men’s Vets, a strong Edinburgh team completed a hat-trick of titles dropping only one game throughout the campaign. Dundee, bolstered by Peter Aird, finished in second place while a countback was required to separate West of Scotland, Aberdeen and Stirlingshire A who all ended up with three wins and three losses. The Ladies Vets was won by West of Scotland with Joy Daniels and Catherine O’Neill proving too strong for their Edinburgh opponents.

On home territory, Aberdeen were dominant in the junior events winning the Junior Boys, Cadet Boys and Minor Boys with Edinburgh the runners up in all three categories. Stirlingshire claimed the Junior Girls title, Aberdeen the Cadet Girls and Edinburgh the Minor Girls. Shetland were delighted to take home the runners up awards in the Minor Girls and the fast improving youngsters are likely to be competing for honours next season. On Sunday a singles event was run for the girls with Kiishi Adekola winning the combined Junior/Cadet event ahead of Alexandra Hart while Maisie Miller won the Minor Girls with Peony Li second, just ahead of Ciara Quinn.

The Stewart McGowan Trophy went to Edinburgh for the third successive time.

Thanks go to Richard Yule for presenting the trophies, Barry Johnston for refereeing and Alison Woods, Lorraine Johnston and Charlie Flint for ensuring the event ran smoothly and to time.

And finally a huge thanks to all the leagues, players, coaches and family members who travelled to Aberdeen to compete in the competition. Hopefully we will see you all back there again next April!
