British Primary Schools Table Tennis Championships – Cardiff, Wales

The British Primary Schools Table Tennis Championships took place from the 4th to 6th of April at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and valuable experience for the Scotland team, with all players performing with great commitment, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm throughout the event.

Team Event Overview

The Scotland Girls’ Team—Anne Chan, Mariah Cassino, Lucy Stakim, and Chole Lee—coached by Lisa Notarangelo, delivered a series of strong performances and were rewarded with a well-earned bronze medal. Notable results included a convincing victory over Jersey and a closely contested win against hosts Wales, where the team showed outstanding determination and teamwork.

The Scotland Boys’ Team—James Huang, Boyd Telfer, Leo Stakim, and Inniyan Jayaraj—performed admirably, finishing in 4th place. The team recorded key victories against Guernsey and Jersey, with several closely fought matches showcasing their resilience and competitive spirit.

Singles and Consolation Events

In the singles competition, Anne Chan, Mariah Cassino, and James Huang all progressed to the quarter-finals of the main knockout stages.

The consolation events saw further success for Team Scotland. Chloe Lee and Leo Stakim both secured bronze medals, each displaying great focus and perseverance in their respective matches.

Looking Ahead

Overall, the event provided a fantastic opportunity for development and team bonding. Encouragingly, six of the eight players will remain eligible for selection next year, when Scotland will have the honour of hosting the event at the SportScotland National Sports Training Centre, Inverclyde.
